The Queensland Air Museum, which you'll find just a stone's throw from the Sunshine Coast, has been buzzing along for well over fifty years now. It's entirely run by a dedicated mob of volunteers who genuinely seem to enjoy spending their spare time keeping some truly magnificent pieces of aviation history from, well, rusting away. There's no big pay packet involved, just a shared passion for all things that once flew.
When it comes to historic aircraft, we've managed to accumulate the largest and most diverse collection you'll stumble across in Australia. And it's not just the planes; we've got aero engines, various bits of forgotten machinery, and even some aviation themed art scattered about. We're actually the second oldest aviation museum in the country, so we've probably seen more take offs and dodgy landings than most. Apparently, over twenty five thousand people drop by annually, so we must be reasonably interesting, or at least a good place to escape the beach crowds for a bit.
