Discover who's who in the nest box zoo

Are you passionate about wildlife conservation? Did you know that nest boxes provide valuable habitats for many hollow dependent species in the Sunshine Coast region?

Nest boxes are a type of artificial hollow, installed on trees to give much-needed homes to animals such as gliders and owls for nesting and raising their young.



Join the University of the Sunshine Coast’s Upskilling Sustainability Initiative for this guided nest box monitoring experience, learning how to safely and ethically monitor what wildlife is living in nest boxes at the Maroochy Regional Bushland Botanic Garden and how you can be a part of Council’s region-wide nest box projects and how you can contribute to its success.

Why are nest boxes so important?
Tree hollows, which are natural nesting sites, only form in very old trees. Unfortunately, many of these trees have been removed faster than new hollows can form. To support the variety of wildlife on the Sunshine Coast, the Council have installed more than three hundred nest boxes in a variety of Environment Reserves over the past few decades.



This FREE guided walk/workshop is ideal for anyone and everyone. Please wear clothes suitable for being outdoors.

Date and times: Thursday 2nd October, 3.00pm to 5.00pm
Location: Maroochy Bushland Botanic Garden, 51 Palm Creek Road, Tanawha. Please meet at the Kurrajong Shelter.
