With Easter spirit on our minds, a day road trip with my girlfriend and heading towards the Sunshine Coast Hinterland of Montville, we came across “The Gift Shop” on the Steve Irwin Way, Glasshouse Mountains .

I have passed this shop before but never had the time to park and venture inside. This time, I did.

I was to learn that The Gift Shop has operated for the past nine years and is owned by Nicole Armesto, who also owns Vida Candles . The Gift Shop is only open for a couple of weeks a year, leading up to Valentine’s Day, Easter, and Mother’s Day. At Christmas, the shop is open for six weeks, covering the festive season.

On walking inside, the shop was full of stock, including gift packets of Easter eggs, both chocolate and sugar, the latter of which has always been my favourite, matchbox cars, miniature tea sets, belt buckles, metal signs, gift lines, wall hangings, soap, Vida Candles, newborn gifts, enamel kitchenware and more.

The enamelware took me back to the years when plastic was not so readily available and of course, lasted longer. My girlfriend mentioned remembering her mother using an enamel basin for storing lard after cooking a meal. I loved the assorted colours and sizes of the enamel teapots, and as my kitchen has a blue theme, I purchased a smaller teapot of the same colour.

Although we were the only two in the store when we first entered, within minutes the shop was full of patrons, families travelling with children and children loving the Easter treats and the bountiful supply of toys for all ages. The owner advised me that this was the norm, as customers were aware of the varied opening times and if wanting a particular item, they knew when to stop by to purchase. Rather than taking the trek into major shopping centres on the Sunshine Coast, locals also prefer The Gift Shop as a preference.

It was easily evident from the enormous and varied stock that the owners wanted to carry items that were different from those of other gift stores. In fact, my girlfriend and I walked around the shelves twice as there was so much to see, and we did not want to miss anything.

This area around the Glasshouse Mountains and Sunshine Coast Hinterland is beautiful, so while taking a leisurely drive, please stop at The Gift Shop and be surprised as we were.

The Gift Shop is located at 806 Steve Irwin Way with a flag out the front of a corrugated iron shed building.

Apart from The Gift Shop, Nicole’s main business, Vida Candles, specialises in handmade candles, soaps, melts, diffusers, resin boards and more. Be sure to check out Vida Candles on Facebook for more great products or contact Nicole on [email protected]
